South Notts League: Balderton beat Attenborough by five wickets in Division A thanks to 133 not out by Shalith Fernando
An unbeaten hundred by Shalith Fernando led Balderton to a five-wicket win at bottom side Attenborough in Division A of the South Notts League on Saturday.
Chasing Attenborough’s 288-6, Balderton reached 289-5 thanks to Fernando’s 133 not out off just 123 balls.
Attenborough opener Affan Mustafa made exactly 100 while Jude Noble made 46. Alex Dickinson was the most successful bowler with figures of 2-41 in 10 overs.
Balderton opener Ryan Charlesworth made 52, putting on 100 for the second wicket with Fernando.
After losing three wickets for 22 runs, it was left to Vijeshkumar Jayakumar Sobhana to provide some late fireworks to get Balderton home. He hit 46 off 35 balls with seven fours and a six as Balderton won with more than two overs to spare.
The 2nds were unable to post a challenging total for Beeston & Toton Sycamore in Division G.
Balderton were only able to reach 168-2 in 40 overs as opener Alan Jackson batted throughout for an unbeaten 80 and Andrew Dell was 58 not out off 108 balls.
Beeston openers Dennis Burrell and Joe Linnington both made half-centuries to get their side on track and while Alfie Summers picked up 2-2 in two overs, the visitors eased to 169-2 in less than 25 overs.
