Balderton Cricket Club to host memorial match in honour of Fred Clipsham with funds raised going to Beaumond House Community Hospice

A cricket match to celebrate the life of a club legend who died last year will take place in August.

The match, in honour of the late Fred Clipsham, from Balderton, will raise money for Balderton Cricket Club and Beaumond House Community Hospice.

Beaumond House provided care for Fred, who died aged 74 in June 2020 after a battle against illness.

Paul Colcomb, a close friend of Fred, who started a JustGiving page to raise funds ahead of the day, said: “Fred was a legend at Balderton Cricket Club.

“As a very gifted player, unique coach and number one barbecue chef he touched so many lives.

“He spent so many hours working with the children’s section through the academy and developing a conveyor belt of first team talent.

“Outside of cricket Fred plied his trade as a builder across Newark and the surrounding area.

“He also enjoyed his rabbit showing and judging.

“Anyone who met Fred would have their own unique story about him as he had his own way of doing things, but always put others first and would do anything for anyone.”

Fred’s family and the club helped organised the memorial cricket match, which will be a day of celebration and reflection.

Tim Clipsham, Fred’s son and captain of Balderton’s first team, said: “We want to raise money for Beaumond House because they were so brilliant to dad.

“Dad knew so many people in Balderton and there are people who still ask me about him, so it will be a real celebration in his memory.

“Anybody who knew dad is more than welcome to come, the more the merrier, because we want to raise as much as possible for Beaumond House.”

Funds raised on the day will be split between the club and the hospice.

The fixture will take place at Coronation Street Park on Sunday, August 29.
