Flowserve A team tighten their grip on Newark bowls scene
Flowserve A retained the Newark and District Bowls League Division One title, and have now won 17 league championships in the last 21 years.
Balderton A rescued their top flight status in their final two matches of the season that were both rearranged home and away games against their fellow relegation candidates Flowserve B. Balderton won 6-1 at home and 7-0 away.
The Division Two winners were Sherwood, who bounced back at the first time of asking following their relegation, and they are joined by Newark Conservative Club in the top flight next summer.
Collingham Bowls Club finished the season on a high on Sunday when they held their finals day to round off a successful year.
The champion of champions final was won by Ann Baker in a close and exciting match.
Following their promotion in 2007, the membership was split into two teams to ensure that all members would be able to play in league matches in 2008, with the A team finishing third in Division One and the B team ending up in mid-table in Division Two.
The A team also won the Millennium Cup with the team of Steve Friend, Mike Ellis, Brian Ward, David Durham, Graham Pipes, Ann Baker, Bob Williams, Gaynor Ellis, Robert Humphris, Dennis Poucher, David Tingle and captain George Durham.
Collingham Bowls Club also play in the Lincoln leagues and were first in both the Lincoln and District League and the Lincoln City Afternoon League and were finalists in the Knockout Cup.
The League of Country Bowls Clubs finals day was held at East Bridgford Bowls Club on Sunday, with 120 spectators watching the 11 matches.
Robin Wallwin of Farndon Bowls Club had a successful day, winning the men’s four-wood singles against Richard Button and Carlton, and then teaming up with club-mate Tom Norman to beat Bob Scott and Jim Seymour of Cotgrave in the men’s two-wood pairs.

Ladies’ two-wood pairs: Joan Collier and Eileen Webster (Lowdham) beat Beryl Helliwell and Barbara Osborn (Farndon).
Ladies’ two-wood singles: Ann Thompson (Burton Joyce) beat Moira Gosling (Bingham).

The Newark and District knockout cup finals saw Newark Town duo Danny and Joy McKeigue beat Beryl Bunkle and Dave Rouse of Balderton in the Rollitt Mixed Pairs.
Robin Wallwin and John Wood of Farndon beat Danny and Joy McKeigue of Newark Town in the Robert Kelham Pairs, while the Donaghy Triples was won by Steve and Jan Ayling and Brian Barber of Balderton who beat the Flowserve trio of Dave Harrison, Kevin Hughes and Barry Stevens.
