It has been a busy week for signings as Advertiser area clubs add to their squads for the upcoming season.

After announcing last week that captain Kyle Yarnell had signed for another season, step seven club Collingham FC revealed the signing of Bailey Vernon-Higgs.

Manager Gary Clark said they were looking at other options and more signings were expected to follow soon.

Newly-promoted step six club Newark Town welcomed home local footballer and midfielder Alex Hales who was the captain of Harrowby United last season.

Town joint managers Luke Parsons and Nick Andersen have past links with Harrowby, and returned to the club for players.

Luke Anderson — Harrowby’s player’s player and manager’s player of the 2021-22 season — has also made the move to Newark.

Newark Town FC's player of the season Sam Bartle will return next season, along with Ben Sharpe and Jackson Buckthorpe.

First to be announced by Town that he would be returning was Jonny Wiles, described by the club as a tireless work horse with a good footballing brain.

It was a busy week for step five Newark and Sherwood United, who announced several new names, following a flurry of signings a couple of weeks ago.

First was Liam Marsden who plays primarily as a right-back but can also play as a centre-back or defensive midfielder.

Marsden previously played for Mansfield Town, Matlock Town and AFC Mansfield among others.

Nyle Blake, the Highwaymen’s next signing also played for Mansfield Town, scoring on his debut. Known for his electrifying pace, Blake can also play in other positions on the right side of the pitch.

Declan O’Hare a midfielder, previously of Lincoln City, completes the trio of players announced by the Highwaymen.

Another newly-promoted to step six club, Southwell City, did not have any new signings to announce but are certainly considering their recruitment prospects.

“We have a great youth system with 50% of the current squad coming up through our set-up,” said first team manager Jonny Upton.

“We have a great atmosphere and the camaraderie is fantastic.

“We want whoever comes into the club to be able to fit into what we have here.” The club is currently considering their options and may have announcements in the future.
