Coddington & Winthorpe baet Sutton Bonington by 50 runs in Division H of the South Nottinghamshire League

Coddington & Winthorpe made it four wins in a row in Division H of the South Nottinghamshire League on Saturday.
Oliver Connett took 3-11 to help his team to a 50-run victory over Sutton Bonington.
After winning the toss and batting first, it looked like Coddington & Winthorpe’s winning run might be under threat.
After Max Pickles was dismissed for 20, the home side lost six wickets for just 37 runs, leaving them 68-6. However, in between the wickets, Ewan Butterfield scored 23 and Jay Butterfield top scored with 34.
These starts, even though no player was able to push on, were enough to take the score into three figures. James Binns then took the batting side to 134 with an impressive 25 at the end of the innings.
It turned out to be more than enough, as Coddington & Winthorpe’s bowling attack took consistent wickets right from the get-go.
Opening bowlers Ewan Butterfield and Nathan Binns shared two wickets apiece, including a wicket where Elliot Thacker took an exceptional full-length diving catch at backward point.
Josh Jones and Connett then came into the attack, claiming two and three wickets respectively. Jones only went for nine runs off his nine overs and Connett took 3-11 off seven overs.
This tight bowling from both ends forced the game away from Sutton Bonington. With 50-5 becoming 70-9, Nathan Binns claimed a run out to complete the victory for Coddington & Winthorpe.
Jones said: “It was great to win when we didn’t fire with the bat but redeemed ourselves with a brilliant bowling performance.
“That’ll give us a lot of confidence for the games that remain knowing that we can bowl as well as we did.”
This Saturday, the 1sts visit Poplars 1sts while the Development XI host Wymeswold 2nds.
