Sutton youth player helps give Caunton Tennis Club fundraising boost

A nine-year-old tennis player has raised funds for his club to give them a kick start after the government welcomed the return of social distanced sport.

Oliver Spencer, from Sutton-on-Trent, raised £70 for Caunton Tennis Club after it reopened some of its services.

Spencer completed a five-mile walk with his mum to raise the funds.

She said: “Ollie wanted to give something back to the club during the lockdown, as the club has been an important part of his life for a few years now.

“And he wanted to say thank you to his coach James Harding, who always believes in Ollie’s talents, and strives to make him a better player, like he does with all his students.”

Harding said: “All of our players, parents and members have been amazingly supporting at this time and continued to engage with us through our live online session and other initiatives.”

The club has reopened to members who are following the government’s guidelines and has also opened social distanced one-to-one lessons.

Harding said new members were welcome to join the club.

For those who cannot return to action at the club Harding said the online zoom training would continue as usual.
