Greaves delighted after David Avanesyan overcomes Shane Mosley
A superior boxing performance earned Russian David Avanesyan the biggest victory of his career against Shane Mosley.
Promoter Carl Greaves, from Newark, has been training Avanesyan for the past few months in his Newark gym ahead of the bout against the former three-weight world champion.
Greaves said the fight in Arizona on Saturday evening would be the biggest of his career to date.
Despite surrendering home advantage, Avanesyan dominated his opponent and earned a unanimous points victory.
Avanesyan will next take on the winner of WBA champion Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, a bout which will take place in June.
Greaves, the former World Boxing Federation World super featherweight champion, said the win felt surreal.
"Weeks of hard work dedication and sacrifices for David has paid off. Beating a boxing superstar like Shane Mosley is a dream come true," he said.
"We're all off to Vegas now for three nights to unwind, it's been a hard few months."
