Jade Grierson will face off against Patricia Gonzalez in the Scott Calow boxing show on March 2 at West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire
With just over two weeks to go until she walks back out into the ring, Suggy’s Gym’s first female professional boxer Jade ‘Greo’ Grierson is looking to add a third win to her unbeaten record.
After several years as a successful amateur kickboxer, she made the switch to boxing — making her pro debut in Rotherham in December 2022 — and was back in action in Nottingham in September 2023.
Grierson defeated Ester Konencna on her professional debut stopping the Czech fighter by TKO.
In her second bout, Grierson won on points against Bojana Libiszewska and will be hoping to continue her good run of form as she goes up against super welterweight fighter Patricia Gonzalez from Spain.
The fight will be showcased on the card of the Scott Calow Boxing Show at Rushcliffe Arena in West Bridgford on Saturday, March 2.
Doors will open 5.30pm with the first bell at 6pm and Grierson’s fight is currently first on the programme.
Spanish fighter Gonzalez has a record of two fights and four losses but both of her wins have come via knockout.
All of Gonzalez’s opponents have had a winning record when they have faced the Spaniard.
The bout should be a good one for Grierson as she looks to continue building her fight pedigree in her quest to progress her career.
Grierson’s opponent is known as ‘Bad News’ and Grierson said she was enthusiastic to give Gonzalez some on the night.
“I’m feeling really hyped for this contest, especially as I know that my opponent is keen on fighting girls with a winning streak.
“Unfortunately for her, I’m a lot more technically gifted and stronger than any of her previous opponents and there’s no doubt in my mind that this will be a very exciting fight.
“My training is going really well — I’m feeling fitter and stronger than ever heading into this one and I am also very happy to be training alongside Chad Sugden, who will be back in the ring himself in April.
“My opponent is a tall, rangy fighter who appears to have a good go at anyone put in front of her but that does not phase me.
“I don’t think that she has come across anyone as technical as me before and that is how I will win, I plan to outbox her.
“The plan is for me to dominate the fight from the first bell and ensuring I give the first and last effort in every exchange.
“I will take the fight to her and place her on the back foot, I don’t believe that she will be comfortable with that.
“If I feel as though I can get the stoppage, I will capitalise on this and do something no one has done to date against her.
“I would like to give a big thank you to my sponsors Novati and Security Two and to everyone coming over to West Bridgford to support me again for this upcoming fight.
“I’m looking forward to seeing you all for this England against Spain clash — if Scott Calow’s previous boxing events are anything to go by, it’s sure to be a great night all round and I’m determined to get things off to a fantastic start when I open the show.”
“There are very few professional female boxers in England and we’re delighted that Jade is now on that list, representing Suggy’s Gym, and is about to do so again on a fight night here in Nottinghamshire that features a total of seven bouts,” said head coach Dean Sugden.
“Her fight next month is the first of several on the cards for our own pro boxers and kickboxers in the coming months, details of which will be announced soon.
“We’re very grateful to Scott for giving her this opportunity to get 2024 off to a great start for us all here in Newark.”
“My goals for this year are to be as active as possible and to continue to put my name out there,” said Grierson.
“I am willing to patiently wait for a big opportunity.
“Long term my goals in boxing are to get that chance for a big fight on a big platform.
“I want to build a legacy for my daughter Amani.”
