Collingham Cricket Club round-up

Collingham & District 1sts slipped to 10th in the Nottinghamshire Premier League after a heavy home defeat by Clipstone.

They lost two wickets in two balls at the start of their reply in suffering a 104-run loss at Dale Field on Saturday.

The hosts chose to field after winning the toss and made an excellent start as Adam Mendham removed both openers to leave Clipstone in trouble at 10-2.

A century stand for the fourth wicket boosted the visitors and they closed 50 overs on 249-8.

Mendham finished with 3-50 while Liam Tew took 2-38.

Collingham, who went into the match on a run of three defeats, lost Tew and Pranav Pothula from successive deliveries to sit 0-2 after two balls.

Wickets continued to tumble with Collingham 36-6 before rallying down the order.

Ravi Yarwood-Paintal top-scored with a run-a-ball 46, including seven fours and a six, while Abdul Basit dug in with 19 off 50 deliveries, but Collingham were bowled out for 145.

Collingham & District 2nds lead the way in Division C of the South Nottinghamshire League after a final-ball victory at Bingham.

Skipper Wilf Wright took an early wicket while Josh Sugden was the pick of the attack with 3-39 in 11 overs as Bingham, boosted by an unbroken eight-wicket stand of 97, closed on 247-7.

An opening partnership of 137 between David Pipes (89) and Ross Taylor (59) laid the foundations for Collingham’s successful chase.

Pipes’ knock included 13 fours while Taylor found the boundary eight times.

Will Hillman added 54 in the middle order before skipper Wright (14 not out) and Lee Fazackerley (6 not out) clinched a dramatic two-wicket victory from the last ball of the match.

Balderton 1sts lost to Calverton by six runs in a close Division A match and drop a place to sixth.

Home skipper Ryan Charlesworth chose to field after winning the toss but perhaps regretted that decision as Calverton put on 92 for the first wicket before Rex Whitehurst struck.

Wickets for Christopher Dobbie, Charlesworth and Samuel Clipsham reduced the visitors to 132-4 but a 74-stand for the fifth wicket got them back on track and they posted 241-6.

Charlesworth survived 24 balls to score 4 at the top of the Balderton reply while fellow opener Chale Neshaharan dug in with 28 off 55.

Shalith Fernando (50) and Dobbie (44) moved the scoreboard along, sharing a partnership of 85 for the third wicket.

Jamie Gilbertson added 30 and while Clipsham (12 not out) and Aaron Charlesworth (7 not out) tried to get their side over the line, Balderton fell short on 235-8.

Balderton 2nds lost to East Bridgford by nine wickets - one of only two sides below them in the Division G table.

Opener Sam Ross (34) and Phil Gregory (31) made a steady start while Stuart Lees added an unbeaten 32 as Balderton reached 150-7.

Matthew Smart made the breakthrough but that was the only wicket to fall as East Bridgford cruised to their target inside 22 overs.
