Newark Rugby Club looking forward to new season with captain Will Britten back for his sixth season

Winter sports season is due to start again soon and clubs are gearing up for competition.

Newark Rugby Club's 1sts will start their league campaign this Saturday as they host Sutton Coldfield, (kick-off 3pm).

The team will be looking to consolidate last season’s determined campaign which brought them a hard-fought sixth place in Regional 2 North Midlands.

This season sees the league much-changed bringing seven new opponents led by Nottinghamshire rivals Paviors, West Bridgford, and Mellish.

The other new teams are from the West Midlands in Lichfield, Walsall, Tamworth, and Wolverhampton.

Will Britten continues his excellent service to the club as captain – a record sixth season in charge – alongside the coaching duo of Adam Corcoran and James Offer.

Several new players are likely to be in the lineup on Saturday following pre-season training which included a win over an RAF side.

Newark are also at home on the following Saturday, September 9, against Long Eaton.

The club said that all spectators are welcome, the bar will be open, there will be free entry, and the match-day programme will be on sale for £3.

The club’s second team are also in league action away to Grimsby on Saturday.

They will also be looking for more success after being promoted last season.
