Newark & Sherwood manager Romaine Graham expects response from video nasty at home to Skegness in United Counties League Premier Division North
Romaine Graham hopes a video nasty will help Newark & Sherwood get their play-off bid back on track.
United players sat through footage of their 3-1 home defeat by AFC Mansfield at training last week.
A frozen pitch at Hucknall denied them the chance to put things right at the weekend.
All being well, they’ll host Skegness in the United Counties League Premier Division North this Saturday (3pm).
The Highwaymen are ninth in the table, 10 points off the play-off places, after a dip in form.
“A couple of lads were surprised to see what we saw when we watched the video of the AFC Mansfield game,” said boss Graham.
“I think that hit home, so I’m looking forward to the response.
“Basically, we can be lazy on the ball, so there’s no intent to get into space, no overlaps, just going through the motions.
“It was clear to see and with the goals we conceded, you could see AFC looked like they had more desire.
“It’s always good to watch the footage back and I’ll be using it more, for sure.
“I won’t get them to watch a whole game now, I’ll cut bits to show them.
“We had a good training session on Saturday after our game was postponed and worked on putting things into practice, how we press and there was more intensity to our play.”
Newark & Sherwood are set to welcome back Toby White this weekend.
He’s recovered quickly after dislocating his shoulder in the 2-2 draw with local rivals Newark Town on Boxing Day.
Skipper Jamie Goodard could also start as he builds match fitness following a hamstring injury.
“Toby should be back,” said Graham. “He’s a key player for us as well.”
Newark & Sherwood’s Notts Senior Cup quarter-final against Repton was postponed on Tuesday night due to the weather - the teams will try again next Tuesday.
The winners will eventually face Nottingham Forest’s under-21s in the semi-finals should they beat Basford next month.
“We played Forest in the semis a couple of years ago,” said Graham.
“They had a couple of players who’d made appearances in the first team, in the Prem.
“You got the impression they could run through three players but it’s almost like they’re coached not to. We managed to get the win.”
