Newark and District Double Board Darts League round-up

RHP 26ers continue to lead the way in the men's division of the Newark and District Double Board Darts League after they came from behind to defeat the Railway Club's Hedgehoggers 4-1.

The 26ers, who finished fifth in last summer’s debut season, have bounced back from last week’s first loss of the season against Wheatsheaf Bellies & Bullseyes to maintain their position at the top after finishes from Jon Gough, skipper Stephen Adshead and a brace from Steve Alexander enabled them to recover from an opening leg loss inflicted by Will Peasgood’s checkout for the league’s bottom side.

They have been joined at the summit by the reigning champions Rose and Crown Marauders who also recovered from their previous week’s first loss of the campaign, at the hands of Castle & Falcon BBC2s.

They eased to a 5-0 victory over Castle & Falcon Arrows with finishes from captain Tom Greenhalgh and two apiece from Ryan Holland and Phil Tranter.

Wheatsheaf Bellies & Bullseyes remain the only side with a 100 percent winning record after they recorded a third successive win as they overcame Railway Club 5-0 helped by a hat-trick of checkouts from Martin Fryer.

Kevin Rose and Neil Ward, who also recorded the season’s highest average of 67.2, were the other finishers for the Wheatsheaf who are just three points behind the top two with a game in hand.

Castle & Falcon BBC2s remain in fourth after they made in three wins on a trot since their opening day loss to the 26ers following their 5-0 victory over RHP Darts of Hazzard with checkouts from James Brown plus two each from Stuart Hay and Phil Moore.

The ladies’ division has new leaders after Falcoholics took full advantage of Collingham FC Mother Chuckers’ inactivity to replace the division’s only unbeaten side at the summit with an 11-4 victory over the King’s Queens.

The Falcoholics had led 3-1 after the opening pairs encounters but were pegged back to 3-3 after Aimee Wood overcame Jo Ward in the opening singles clash and the parity was maintained after the next singles match was drawn.

The Falcoholics then regained the advantage as Jess Esam overcame Heather Webb before securing the win as Sarah Clare’s victory over Sue Smith gave the Castle & Falcon side an unassailable 8-4 lead.

Ward then landed the winning double in the concluding team leg to wrap up the 11-4 win to give the Falcoholics a four point lead at the top.

Last season’s runners-up, Castle & Falcon Bangers, have moved into second place despite suffering their second defeat of the campaign as they were beaten 8-7 by Wheatsheaf Wanderers who move into third place.

Karen Whittaker’s victory over Jayne Higgins in the opening singles clash had briefly put the Bangers ahead 4-2 but the Wanderers responded with Ann Hubbard, skipper Linda Brockson and Carol Smith winning the remaining three singles matches to give the Wheatsheaf an unassailable 8-4 lead.

The Wanderers, though, were unable to maintain their momentum as they failed to add the team leg, which would have moved them above their beaten opponents, as Whittaker holed out on double-16.

The remaining match saw Caffs Ladies secure their first win of the season after Kelly Barrett’s crucial checkout in the team leg edged them home 9-6 against Railway Club Artists in a tight encounter which saw both pairs matches and all four singles ties end in draws to set up the team leg decider.RHP 26ers continue to lead the way in the men's division of the Newark and District Double Board Darts League after they came from behind to defeat the Railway Club's Hedgehoggers 4-1.
