Lion’s Den Boxing Gym gives back to the community in Newark, Nottinghamshire

A community boxing club is helping young people turn their lives around by providing them with a place that encourages structure and discipline.

The Lion’s Den Boxing Club which operates out of Carl Greaves Gym is a non-profit organisation that trains over 40 fighters.
“If we have a good lad who has the talent, we will make sure finance isn’t a barrier to helping them compete in boxing,” said one of the founders, Robert Morton.

“The club will cover it if the money is there.

“You get youngsters come in who won’t look you in the eye and over time their confidence builds.”

Morton and Clownes Steele train the fighters and have been operating out of their current location for around six months.

“We do it all for the love of it.

“Clownes Steele and I don’t get paid to do it, we don’t want any money to do it, we both work and have jobs.

“It is just rewarding to see the lads do well.

“Lately we have seen some good wins by some of the children that train here and it is great to see.”
