Farndon Cricket Club remain in top spot in Division D of the South Nottinghamshire League

Farndon maintained top spot in Division D of the South Nottinghamshire League with a narrow victory on Saturday.

They beat visiting Cavaliers and Carrington 4ths by one wicket to remain 16 points clear of second-placed Burton Joyce Lions who have a game in hand on the leaders.

An excellent spell of 5-35 from eight overs by John Esam had helped restrict Cavaliers and Carrington to 208-9 after they had been put into bat.

Jason Lam led the way early on for Farndon.

Rhiannon Knowling-Davies and Toby Adwick also collected two wickets each for Farndon who started their reply solidly.

Opener Jason Lam led the way with 69 but wickets then started to tumble at regular intervals.

When Farndon found themselves on 158-9 with just one wicket remaining, a second league loss of the season looked on the cards.

However, Adam Baldwin joined forces with Esam for a match-winning 51-run final wicket partnership.

Baldwin blasted seven fours and two sixes in his 54 not out while Esam was unbeaten on 10 as Farndon secured the win with two overs remaining.

A fine all-round performance from Stuart Grimley helped Southwell to a 67-run away success at Ellerslie.

Grimley struck nine fours and four sixes in his 87 as Southwell posted 213-8 from their 45 overs after batting first.

Will Ashworth also added 64 for a Southwell side who then dismissed their hosts for 146 in reply.

Grimley took 2-27 while Josh Evans returned 3-34 with William Johnson picking up 2-35 in a strong Southwell showing for their second league win of the season.

Southwell's second string are still seeking their first win of the Division J campaign after a six-wicket home loss to Radcliffe-on-Trent 3rds.

Opener Tim Green smashed 12 fours and three sixes in his century as Southwell made 182-5 from their 40 overs.

However, the target was passed in 33 overs despite Jim Scott taking 4-26 from his 10 overs for Southwell.

Farndon 2nds went down by three wickets in their match at Midlands.

Dave Adwick made 65 as Farndon finished their 40 overs on 162-9 but Belvoir-based Midlands reached the win in 31 overs despite Mark Everington taking 3-29.
