Matt Dring takes the final Collingham Angling Club Sweepstake title of 2018

By Connor Thompson

Matt Dring moved into the new year as champion of Collingham’s Sweepstake match.

On a rainy afternoon, 21 members entered the weekly event, which saw the man from peg 19 catch 61-12lbs, using the bomb and pole with pellet corn tactic.

In what was a close contest for first place, Russ Jones, from peg 15, missed out by no less than two pounds, as he weighed in with 59-15.

He adopted the bomb with bread approach.

Third place saw the gap increase as Paul Chadwick, from peg 11, caught 52-07, using the more favourable tactic of feeder with pellet.

Fourth and fifth were separated by three pounds.

Kenny Clark, who had a number of wins in 2018, caught 46-01 on the waggler and pole with caster from peg 23, while Brian Clark, from peg eight, caught exactly 43lbs on the pole with caster.
