Mixed results in the hockey for Newark and South Notts Hockey Clubs




THERE were some great matches for district sides in the hockey with Newark and South Nottinghamshire fielding a variety of different teams across men’s and ladies’ competitions.

The Newark men’s 1st side went down 4-0 to Barton in a tough contest which saw the teams battle in difficult conditions.

Mansfield got up 6-1 over Newark’s men’s 2nds as they utilised their home-ground advantage.

The Newark 3rds managed to get a couple of goals on the board but were defeated 6-2 at home by a tenacious Boots side.

The Newark Ladies’ teams got some fantastic wins, with a thrilling 4-0 win over Notts Uni for the 1sts that saw several goalscorers hit their stride.

The Newark Ladies’ 2nd’s managed a 4-3 victory over a reslient Boots 3rd side.

Newark dug deep and were able to put the result away with some impressive teamwork.

The Newark Ladies 3rd’s put in a strong effort away at West Bridgford, but ultimately lost 2-0 despite working hard.

It was a close game that saw Newark play well despite the defeat.

The under-14 boy’s side continued their success with a 3-0 win over Leamington in the T2 league.

The result sees them maintain their unbeaten run as they continue to impress this season.

South Nottinghamshire Hockey Club had a period of mixed results with their men’s 1st XI losing 15-0 to an immensely powerful side from Loughborough.

The Loughborough team were excellent as they took it to South Notts in a stellar display of skilful hockey.

The men’s 2nd side got some revenge against their Loughborough counterparts as they won a good contest 5-1 with a hat trick from Gary Pickering and two goals from Alex Cavan.

The side worked well together and were aggressive in attack, managing to outscore their opponents and apply pressure to the Loughborough defence throughout the game.

The 3rds had a bye and the 4ths went down 0-5 against Mansfield in a match that was a hard slog for South Nottinghamshire.

The South Notts Ladies’ 1st’s had an early start in Worksop against North Notts on a bitterly cold morning but won 12-1 with goals by Becky Humphris (5), a hat-trick by Sammy Markwick, and individual single goals by Kate Parker, Ruby Ryan, Sophie Runciman, and Sophie Atkinson.
