Newark Nationals baseball team bounce back from Manchester defeat with victory over Sheffield Bladerunners in the Single-A League
Newark Nationals returned from their first away trip of the Single-A season on Sunday with a win and a defeat to their name.
They lost 15-10 to hosts Manchester Baseball Club in the opening match.
The Nationals came out swinging, with some big hits by Daniel Glass and Lee Rippon.
But Manchester’s fielding was stronger than expected and Newark were defeated 15-10.
Newark rallied to beat Sheffield Bladerunners 12-6 in their second match.
Sheffield made some big hits in previous meetings, with Newark calling in Glass to be the starting pitcher.
After a rusty start, Newark got their rhythm and with some simple and effective plays to first baseman Daryl Perkins by second baseman Kieran Campbell, they were getting the Sheffield players out quicker than the last game against them.
Newark’s pitching was stronger than Sheffield’s and they completed their third win of the season after last weekend’s double success against Leeds.
