Newark Rugby Club appoint new captain ahead of Regional 2 Midlands North campaign
Newark Rugby Club’s senior squad have started their training for the new season – under a new captain.
The 1sts will be led in the upcoming campaign in Regional 2 Midlands North by the newly-appointed Olly Dodders.
Dodders takes over from long-serving Will Britten, who stood down in May after a record six-year stint.
Since joining from Keyworth two years ago, Olly has become a regular in the first team back row and has also represented Midlands U20s and recently captained Notts, Lincs and Derbys under-20s.
Director Tim Barker said: “It’s an exciting time for Olly and I know he’s relishing the challenge. He has the full support of the management team and senior players group.”
Pre-season games have been scheduled for next month when the 1st and 2nd teams travel to Peterborough on Saturday, August 17, followed by home fixtures for the 1sts and 2nds the following Saturday (August 24) against RAF teams.
League fixtures start on Saturday, September 7, at home to Matlock for the 1sts (kick-off 3pm) at Kelham Road and away at Casuals for the 2nds.
The 3rds have been entered into the NLD Merit competition and fixtures are expected to be announced early in August.
Training sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm. All senior players are urged to attend and newcomers are always welcome.
The sessions are led by director of rugby Adam Corcoran and head coach James Offer.
