Newark Flowserve hold on to earn a point against Bingham Town
Newark Flowserve picked up their second point of the season in the Notts Senior League as they repelled a barrage of attacks in a 1-1 draw at home against Bingham.
There was little to separate the teams at the start, but Flowserve took the advantage after some good work from Joe Hurst down the right.
He laid the ball off for Ben Lyons who broke clear and scored from just outside the penalty area.
Flowserve looked to get the ball forward as quickly as possible, but they weren't able to add a second before the break.
Bingham were struggling to cope with their opponents style of play, but dominated the second-half as Newark began to tire.
Although they weren't able to recapture the form of Saturday, where they won 7-1 against Underwood Villa, they created a number of chances.
Ed Hodgson eventually got the equaliser as he latched on to a long throw, and following a goalmouth scramble flicked his shot in off the post from ten yards.
Bingham pushed for the winner but they were denied by some dogged defending as the sides finished all square.
Manager Matt Wade was satisfied with his side's performance, and believes it was the first game that felt like a team performance.
"After the hammering on Saturday we did well to bounce back and get the point. It felt like the lads were playing for the shirt and were giving their all to the cause," he said.
"It was a well earned draw. The main difference in the second-half was our fitness but that will come with time."
Flowserve travel to Cotgrave on Saturday, while Bingham face an away match against Underwood Villa.
