Newark FC manager Craig Roche praises supporters after eventful start to United Counties League campaign
Craig Roche has praised his side’s supporters for travelling in their numbers to Saturday’s 5-2 defeat at Pinchbeck United.
Roche said 90% of the official 68 attendance were Newark supporters who did not stop singing throughout.
“They were great.” he said: “They were singing non-stop as usual.
“It is a long trek to Spalding so hopefully we can reward them on Saturday against Heanor Town with something to shout about.
“We went into the season with an open mind, not knowing what to expect numbers-wise because of the ground situation and being away from home.
“It is a long journey for everyone, it isn’t a case of just nipping down the road to Flowserve.”
Newark welcomed more than 200 supporters to their season-opener at Basford and surpassed the 100-mark in their other home fixtures (125 vs Gresley Rovers and 112 vs Lutterworth Town).
“There have been a lot of ups and downs already and it has been a bit of a topsy-turvy start to the season but they have supported us through thick and thin and they have shown that they have our back and understand where we are at as a club at the moment,” said Roche.
“They have been there for us and hopefully we can repay them by turning things around on the pitch.”
