The Paul Fletcher International circuit at Brandon hosts the Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship





A three-day world karting extravaganza hosted at the Paul Fletcher International circuit at Brandon has been hailed as a great success.

The Stragglethorpe Lane track staged the Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship over the weekend.

And it was the home-grown talent that emerged victorious with British drivers among the leading lights after a thrilling final day.

The heavy rain around lunchtime and into the afternoon brought dramatic outcomes in the closing moments of each final.

Britain's Joe Turney lost out on the Original Kart (OK) title with a mistake on the final lap, leaving his young compatriot Ethan Jeff-Hall take the win.

Matthew Higgins finished in third place ahead of Frenchman Jimmy Helias with Ireland's Fionn McLaughlin sixth ahead of the British trio of Zac Drummond, Harley Keeble and Joseph Smith.

Noah Baglin (GB) ran off the track after making contact with Kenzo Craigie (GB) a few metres from the finish line, having led the OK Junior race for 18 laps.

Craigie claimed the victory ahead of Australian James Anagnostiadis with Rocco Coronel from the Netherlands in third spot.

British drivers took four of the remaining top 10 places with Kit Belofsky fourth, Zac Green fifth, Scott Marsh seventh and Sebastian Minns ninth.

Korean driver Kyuho Lee won the OK-N final with Harrison Whitticombe the best British finisher in fifth spot

The event attracted a large number of participants which meant that five heats were needed for each category.

The staff at PFI and Trent Valley Karting Club were commended for hosting and assisting throughout the event.
