Annual President's Day match at Newark Rugby Club ends in a draw
A packed house at Kelham Road enjoyed some good quality boxing Day rugby as Newark Rugby Club hosted their annual president’s match.
The game ended 35-35 in a thrilling affair.
Two teams of current and former players were selected to play three 20-minute periods of high-quality, entertaining rugby in the traditional post-Christmas encounter.
Club favourite and coach of the 2nds Richard Byrom was one of the players that took to the field.
It was an opportunity for some of the first team to get rid of some cobwebs after the side has not played since earlier in December due to poor weather and match postponements.
The Newark 1sts will next be in action at Kelham Road on January 7 (kick-off 2.15pm) against Belgrave.
Newark will be looking to avenge their 35-19 loss against the side earlier in the season with the advantage of playingn front of a home crowd.
