Striker Patrick Bamford has signed on a season-long loan for Premier League team Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old, from Norwell, signed from Chelsea having starred at Middlesbrough last season. He has also signed a new three-year contract with the Premier League champions.

He scored 19 times in all competitions for the Championship club, almost helping them to secure promotion. Bamford was also named the division’s Player of the Year.

He told the official Crystal Palace website: "I was quite keen to stay close to London this time and Palace were actually my first choice, but I didn't realise they were keen to start with.

"Then, when I met with the manager (Alan Pardew), he put forward his plans and it was an easy decision."

Bamford said he was looking forward to the opportunity to make a name for himself in the top tier.

He said: "I like to get in behind the defence. I'd say I'm deceptively quick, but I'm sure they'll make their own minds up.

"I do like to score goals, so hopefully I'll be able to do that a lot here. I want to try to establish myself in a Premier League team and if I can do that here then it would be great for me and great for the club."
