George Gamble puts points on the board in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Championship at Donington Park despite car issues

Epperstone’s George Gamble had a mixed weekend at Donington Park.
The 28-year-old’s second season debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Championship racing with the Rosland Gold Racing by Century Motorsport team didn’t go exactly as planned with the team plagued by an issue on the car.
Thursday’s two free practice sessions saw Gamble in the top five. The first session saw two fastest laps, topping speeds of over 108mph. The second session was equally as good, with two further fastest laps taking fifth fastest on Donington Park’s 1.97-mile national circuit.
The team discovered a problem with the car during free practice two but struggled to find the exact cause of the issue.
Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session saw Gamble only manage 11th spot after a lap time was disqualified for exceeding track limits out of the 19 laps completed. He did his personal best on the second-to-last lap with a time of 1:05.654secs.
Sunday’s race one was a sixth-row line-up for Gamble, as the lights went out, but he stormed into seventh after the first lap. By lap two, the safety car had made an appearance due to an incident involving two cars at Redgate. Racing resumed with 18 laps to go.
Gamble kept his cool and remained in seventh, before learning he had been handed a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him down to 10th place.
Race two saw Gamble line up on the fifth row, some great teamwork between the races saw the earlier issue with the car seemingly resolved.
Another great start saw the #1 into fifth place by the end of lap one, Teammate Andrew Rackstraw took command in P1. Gamble had to settle for fifth with Rackstraw taking the honours.
Gamble said: “It wasn’t the start we had in mind, we managed to still score some points and can head to the next round with some momentum.
“I can’t thank the team enough for the turnaround between race one and two. It was a huge effort, and to all the support at my local circuit, it was great to have so many friends and my sponsors come along.”
Gamble resumes Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Championship action at Snetterton on May 24-25.
