Newark Rugby Club’s preseason cup competition kicks off at Kelham Road

Newark Rugby Club’s first team will continue its return to action on Saturday (June 5) in a month-long competition devised to help the sport return to playing.

Newark will host Leicester Forest at Kelham Road (kick off 2.30pm).

It is the first of three pool games in a competition organised by the Notts, Lincs and Derbyshire Rugby Football Union.

The other pool games are against Scunthorpe XV (home, June 12) and West Bridgford (away, June 19).

A two-leg play-off round will complete the tournament.

Newark’s seniors played their first match in almost 15 months on Saturday in a friendly against Nottingham University’s 3rds, losing 26-12.

The seniors have no match this weekend.

The colts, however, will join forces with the under-18s to host Paviors at Kelham Road (kick off 2pm).
