Virtual Newark Half-Marathon to be held this weekend August 10 and 11
There are just a few days more to sign up this year’s Virtual Newark Half-Marathon.
The race will take place this weekend as a remote event, which can be done from anywhere and will give more people an opportunity to take part.
Planned road closures on Hawton Road to facilitate work on the Newark Southern Link Road meant that the half-marathon was unable to be held in its usual format.
As a well established sporting event, now approaching four decades, organisers were keen for the event to still go ahead and made the decision to hold it virtually instead, which can be completed anytime across two days this Saturday and Sunday (August 10 and 11).
The virtual format means participants can join in wherever they want, whether that be on the road, trail or even the treadmill, and can run at their own pace.
The added benefit of holding some form of event also means that as in previous years, charities and local organisations will continue to be supported.
Those interested in taking part can sign up for just £10, or for £15 to receive a finishers medal, which has been designed by 10-year-old Anna Harrison from Newark.
Online registration closes this Friday, August 9, at 23:59. Further details can be found at: www.resultsbase.net/event/6921
Entry is done in exactly the same way as any other event, by creating a profile and filling in participant details.
Instructions will then be given on how to submit results, which can be recorded using any GPS enabled devices such as phone or smart watch, and will then be published after the event on Newark Half-Marathon’s regular results listings page.
There will even be an option to download and print a running bib closer to the event should anyone wish to wear one while running.
Organisers have said they aim to bring the race back to Newark for a full event in 2025 with a new course.
