Newark Ransome & Marles 1sts lost to Basford Mill by 40 runs in the South Nottinghamshire League Division C.

Hosts Newark were asked to field after losing the toss but made a bright start as two wickets for Sonu Charley and one from James Anderson reduced Basford to 36-3.

The visitors continued to lose batsmen at regular intervals and were bowled out for 154 in the 43rd over.

Bhuvanesh Sankaran was the pick of the bowlers with 4-33 while Matthew Evans claimed 3-35.

Newark lost opener Jimmy Munroe to a 12-ball duck in reply but Raj Mohankumar (56) and Harry Atkinson (21) put on 76 for the second wicket.

Mohankumar provided plenty of entertainment with his knock coming off 38 balls and featuring six sixes and two fours.

But his dismissal triggered a collapse that saw the final seven wickets fall for 30 runs as Newark, who sit third in the table after the defeat, slipped to 114 all out.

Newark & Ransome 2nds claimed their first Division H win of the season with a two-wicket success at Bramcote.

They remain in the bottom two but can take confidence from the result.

James Tall made an early breakthrough and there were two wickets for Puran Singh Koranga and for Luc Chignell as Bramote found themselves 49-4.

The hosts rallied but were bowled out for 168 with Bimal Parambil recording figures of 3-18.

Oliver Smith anchored the reply with 34 off 69 balls, including seven fours, while fellow opener Sid Sharma hit a run-a-ball 28.

Bimal Parambil top-scored with 41, hitting four boundaries, and James Tall added 29.

The middle order failed to fire but Koranga and skipper Chignell (both 6 not out) held their nerve.
