Castle and Falcon BBC2s have continued their impressive start to the defence of their Newark and District Double Board Darts League’s Summer title as they maintained their 100% success record.

This came after a third successive 4-1 win moved them to the top of the table.

In a match which was closely contested, the BBC2s’ better finishing proved the difference as they overcame Railway Club with finishes from Nigel Parr, Ian Hurst, Phil Moore and skipper James Brown.

Richard Taylor’s fourth leg checkout secured the Railway’s consolation.

Recently crowned winter league champions, Rose and Crown Marauders, bounced back from their previous week’s defeat to the BBC2s with a 4-1 win over RHP Darts of Hazzard.

The Marauders had raced into a 2-0 lead after a brace of checkouts from Steven Barnett before a much tighter third leg saw their opponents have an opportunity to halve the deficit.

However, they failed to take their chance which allowed Phil Tranter to check out and give his side an unassailable 3-0 lead.

RHP outscored their rivals in the next and had several chances to reduce the deficit but once again were unable to take the opportunity which allowed Barnett to hole out again to complete his hat-trick.

The final leg saw the boot on the other foot as the Marauders saw chances to complete the whitewash come and go which enabled RHP to rescue a point as Paul Gallacher checked out on 52.

The remaining matches saw Castle and Falcon Arrows pick up their first win of the season as they eased to a 5-0 win over in-house rivals Projectile Dysfunction with finishes from Colin Weir and a brace apiece from Andy Norris and Pete Knott.

RHP Darts of Hazzard ‘B’ secured their first victory of their debut campaign as they defeated Just The Tip of Rose and Crown Balderton who failed to field a full side.

The result was 5-0 with checkouts from Steve Alexander, Mike Davies, Michael Rawle and two from Craig Ashley.

In the ladies’ winter league, there were two re-arranged matches which saw last week’s two subsidiary cup finalists back in action.

RHP Ladies, who were victorious in the previous week’s closely fought final, completed their league campaign with an 8-7 win over Falcoholics.

RHP had found themselves 3-1 down after the pairs but singles wins by Heather Webb and Sandra Baker turned the match 5-3 in their favour.

They maintained their two-leg cushion as Sue Smith drew with Stacey Grand-Scrutton before the victory was secured as skipper Julie Feeney defeated Sonia Bowles to give RHP, who will finish the season in fourth, a 8-4 lead.

Falcoholics’ skipper Di Nuttall then reduced the deficit as she checked out in the concluding 3-point team leg.

Meanwhile Caffs Ladies were unable to bounce back from their cup final defeat as they were comfortably beaten 14-1 by Wheatsheaf Wandering Misfits who secured third spot after a terrific campaign.

The Misfits had raced into a 4-0 lead after success in both pairs’ encounters before securing the win as singles victories by Linda Brockson and Carol Smith gave them a commanding 8-0 lead.

Kelly Barrett then rescued a point for Caffs Ladies as she drew with Ann Hubbard but that was the Castle and Falcon side’s only consolation as Jodie Brumpton won the remaining singles game and Misfits’ skipper Brockson checked out to secure the concluding team leg.
