District rugby clubs look ahead to upcoming season as fixtures released
After a successful season on and off the field, Kelham Road will again be a hive of activity in just a few short months.
Newark Rugby Club’s first team will face Nottinghamshire opponents Paviors and West Bridgford in the first few weeks of the new season which starts in September.
The RFU published the fixtures for the forthcoming season, giving Newark back-to-back home games to start the campaign in the Regional Two North Midlands competition.
After Newark hosts Sutton Coldfield (September 2) and Long Eaton (September 9), the team travels to Melbourne (September 16).
The two fixtures against their Nottinghamshire rivals then follow, with Paviors travelling to Kelham Road on September 23 and West Bridgford hosting Newark on September 30.
Newark finished sixth last season and the solid results have gained the coaching duo of Adam Corcoran and James Offer enhanced roles for next season.
Corcoran, who was the head coach, will become director of senior rugby while Offer who was the assistant coach will be the new head coach.
The squad returns to training at the end of this month and several pre-season matches are currently being organised.
Over 260 people attended the Southwell Rugby Ball, the first ever one held in summer.
A large marquee played host to the event on one of the pitches with a host of attractions located in its vicinity.
Beautiful weather and live music from the Pesky Alligators duo ensured everyone in attendance had a good time during the club's centenary ball.
The club thanked everyone who attended and also acknowledged the volunteers who made the event a success.
The club added that they are looking forward to a successful season and said that anyone interested in playing was encouraged to contact the club.
Bingham will be hosting a clubhouse working bee where they are asking for people's assistance over the first weekend in July.
The pavilion and grounds will get some much-deserved attention and volunteers are being called to help.
