Coddington Primary School year six football team officially third in Midlands and Newark and Sherwood District tournament champions
A primary school football team is officially the third best in the Midlands.
Coddington Primary School’s year six under 11 football team competed in the Midlands regional finals on Wednesday, March 13, at the Castle Vale stadium in Birmingham.
They qualified to represent Nottinghamshire at the finals after winning the under 11’s Nottinghamshire County Finals last month.
The team were up against the champions from the West Midlands, Leicestershire, Humberside, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Northamptonshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Shropshire.
Coddington finished joint top of their group but second on goal difference, beating the side who topped their group in a close match.
In the semi-finals they played Redhill School from Shropshire who had topped their league. Coddington had the better of them for most of the match but right at the end they conceded an extremely unfortunate goal to lose the knockout tie, and took third place overall.
Undeterred, they bounced back from their disappointment and two days later won the Newark and Sherwood District under 11’s spring tournament held at Kings Primary Academy, Newark, beating Barnby Road Academy three nil in the final.
