Newark and Sherwood United beat Skegness Town in the FA Cup
A double strike from Kieran Cummings helped Newark and Sherwood progress in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Cummings bagged a brace in the 3-1 away win at Skegness Town in the extra preliminary round clash.
Kameron Campbell was also on target as the Highwaymen defeated their United Counties League Premier Division North hosts.
Cummins had gone close to giving Sherwood a 13th minute lead when he rattled the crossbar with a shot following a driving run.
The Highwaymen were then rewarded for a strong spell by breaking the deadlock in the 28th minute as Cummins rounded off a fine passing move with a tidy finish.
The lead was then doubled three minutes later when Campbell volleyed home the second goal following a long throw.
Skegness, however, got themselves back into the game 10 minutes into the second half with a towering header from Conor Marshall.
It sparked another strong response from Newark with Cummings having an effort tipped over the crossbar by Skegness goalkeeper Caleb Pipes-Goulsbra.
They sealed their place in the next round with nine minutes remaining as their two-goal lead was restored when Cummings tapped home after his initial effort had been saved by the home custodian.
The Highwaymen came close to adding a fourth goal when Kole Lambert smashed a shot against the upright late on.
They will now entertain either Corby Town or AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the preliminary round on Saturday, August 17.
The two Northern Premier League Midlands Division sides played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday and face a midweek replay.
