Southwell boosted by signing of AFC Mansfield’s Brad Peace-McDonald and Newark Flowserve’s Liam Moran in 2-0 win over AFC Dunkirk
Southwell City, rejuvenated by the signings of AFC Mansfield’s Brad Peace-McDonald and Newark Flowserve’s Liam Moran, earned their first win in three, and their first of 2019, with a 2-0 success over AFC Dunkirk.
Southwell remain top of the Notts Senior League Premier Division by two points, following strikes from Jonathan Nussey, and debutant McDonald.
After Ryan Fletcher kept the scores level with a diving save in the 29th minute, Southwell took the lead through Nussey, who made the most of a foul on George Caudwell as he converted the resulting spot-kick.
McDonald sealed the points after 66 minutes as he profited from a poor clearance and headed the ball across the goalkeeper and into the far corner.
Despite Southwell’s win, Stapleford Town continued to display their title credentials, as Adam Hassall guided them to their eighth consecutive league victory, a 5-1 success at Radcliffe Olympic.
Hassall hit his second hat-trick in as many weeks, but his side were made to work for the win as Radcliffe held out until the 40th minute, when Hassall’s deflected effort found its way in.
After conceding in the opening stages of the second-half, Radcliffe pulled one back, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Bingham Town continued their hot streak as they made it 12 league games unbeaten thanks to a Mike Jepps double.
Bingham ran out 3-1 winners against Eastwood Development.
Striker Ed Hodgson was also on target for the hosts, while Kallum O’Dowd hit Eastwood’s reply.
Aslockton And Orston suffered at the hands of third-placed Cotgrave, as goals from Lee Pots and Jack Sykes-Wood either side of half-time proved the be the difference.
