Southwell rugby club to join Bingham at the Prima Tiger Cup Finals day
The Prima Tiger Cup finals day will feature two rugby teams from the district with the Southwell under-10 side set to join their Bingham counterparts on March 4 at Mattioli Woods, Welford Road.
The Southwell side is coached by Dan Tovey, Steve Boyles, and Simon Sarginson-Bowler.
Southwell successfully gained a place in the finals after qualifying for the event at Newark Rugby Club.
Fifteen players were available on the day and the side played five matches against local teams including a few they had not played against previously.
“We were extremely proud of the players who played their hearts out but also conducted themselves exactly as we expected,” said team coach, Dan Tovey.
“The players helped team-mates and opposition players up, congratulated each other, and respected the officials.
The competition awards good play and we played at a high tempo but with some incredibly effective tackling and defence.
“The competition equally focuses on teams including players, coaches, and parents displaying the values of the game.
“It’s something that we promote extensively in the team and across the club.”
After the matches, the side posed for group photos with the Gallagher Premiership trophy.
