Southwell to host major archery tournament
Some of the country’s top archers will be in Southwell at the weekend to compete in the 2018 Euro Nations and Commonwealth European Archery Championships.
Sherwood Archers, whose home is on Kirklington Road, has been chosen to host the competition.
Mr Mario Stankovic, who will be the judge in charge, said it was a great honour for them.
More than 40 archers from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Jersey will take part in the annual tournament on Saturday.
They will stay at Trent University’s Brackenhurst campus, which will also be used to host a banquet and prize-giving in the evening.
The archery club previously held the junior version of the competition, and event organiser Susan Stankovic, who is also club secretary, said she was looking forward to it.
"A lot of work has gone into it, from organising the tournament itself, arranging the scoring and results, and making sure we have enough packed lunches to feed the archers," she said.
"People will hopefully have a good experience of coming to the club.
"We have hosted lots of different tournaments before and have a good reputation as a club, so we will look to keep that up and even improve it with this tournament."
The archers will take part in an open shoot on the Sunday, where another 25 archers from around the East Midlands will take part.
The competitions on both days run from 8.30am to 6.30pm.
l The club recently supplied all the equipment needed for the have-a-go archery competition at the National Transplant Games.
