An affordable alternative to area afterschool care programmes is being offered for children who want to do something different once the final bell rings.

The Newark and Sherwood YMCA is offering child and youth activities during the week through their villager membership.

Eleven to 17-year-olds can attend the facility between 4pm and 6.30pm where a wide range of activities will be on offer.

The YMCA is within walking distance to many schools in the area including Magnus and Newark Academy.

Students can go from school to the YMCA, get changed and prepare for their first session which starts at 4pm.

The first sessions run until 5pm before a 30 minute break leads into a second hourly session which runs until 6.30pm.

There is also a games room where children can drop in and play Xbox, board games and table tennis.
