Stage set at Dale Field as Collingham CC plan for return to competitive cricket

The cricket season will loom even closer on Saturday and, ahead of Collingham’s final home friendly, club member Simon Chapman has run through the changes at the club.

“Preparations for a return to cricket began as soon as covid restrictions allowed,” said Chapman.

“The ground is ready and looks an absolute picture, the senior teams are raring to go, and refreshments will be available for spectators whenever matches are being played.”

Collingham’s 1sts will play their final friendly at home to Caythorpe 2nds (12pm).

Chapman explained while the season begins soon, the club was still on the look out for new players of all ages and abilities.

The registration evening for the junior section will take place tomorrow, from 6pm.

Boys and girls as young as year two are welcome.

Kwik Cricket (soft ball) is the format until hard ball is introduced at under-10 level.

“Collingham is really keen to attract girls to the junior section with a view to growing girls’ teams in the older age groups within a couple of seasons, and a competitive women’s team in the future,” said Chapman.

“The women’s game is flourishing and Collingham hopes to become a part of the development of women’s cricket locally.”
