Former professional boxer and Epic Golden Gloves coach Esham Pickering tips Danny Steele to win NABGC Championships




Danny Steele has been backed to be a Newark gym’s first national champion.

Steele, of Newark, has reached the finals of the NABGC Championships after a convincing unanimous points win in Liverpool.

The 18-year-old gave his opponent, Scott Brown, of Southport Star ABC, two standing counts in the first round and continued the pace into the second round, forcing a third.

After dominating in the third and final round, Steele was awarded with the bout, putting him through the finals in Altringham on Sunday.

Esham Pickering, Steele’s trainer at Epic Golden Gloves, said: “Brown was a very tough, durable and capable opponent and in the semi finals this would be nothing less (than you would expect).

“I’m over the moon for Danny.

“I have big confidence that he can be our first national champion after seven years since starting.”

Pickering himself won the NABGC title in 1994, before later turning pro.
