Southwell City Ladies are champions of Division Three after first season in senior football competition

A dominant 7-0 victory over Stapleford Town saw Southwell City Ladies solidify their position as champions of Division Three in the Nottinghamshire Girls and Ladies football competition.

Former Newark Town player Eleanor Stanbridge and Lois Harris scored braces for the Zebras.

Charlotte Evans, Laya May-Fox and Evie Slater all contributed goals on the way to the big win.

The side which is still undefeated this campaign with one game left to play will now be promoted into Division Two of the competition next season.

“I think it’s just a great achievement for these girls having transitioned and then adapted from under-16 to adult level,” said coach Sven Richards.

“With the help of some impactful additions, they have very quickly gone on and had the success that they have had in just their first season of open age female football.

“This season far exceeded our expectations, as from the outset our goal was simply to be able to hold our own in the competition where we could create a platform to then kick on from in the future.

“So to be in a position where we are now one game and win away from having the ‘perfect’ season is outstanding.

“To be able to adapt and overcome the physical and pace of the adult game and then imprint our football with success, you can imagine that the girls are overjoyed with what they have achieved in their first season as this age group.”
