Two members of Newark Martial Arts Club have returned home with medals after success at the ISKA World Kickboxing Championships.

Jordan Frost (12) was crowned champion in the 10-12-year-olds under-45kg category at the event in Olomouc in the Czech Republic.

Jordan beat Michalski Frederic of Germany in the semi-final before taking on local favourite and Czech Republic champion Martinek Ales in the final.

The final consisted of three hard-fought rounds and Jordan had to come through some tough moments.

He showed how much he has improved over recent months and brought some exceptional techniques, along with ring- craft, to the final.

Jordan’s gold medal was followed by a silver from Sophie Webb (15).

She also had a tough journey to get to the final where she was faced with a massive challenge against the current under-16 full contact world champion from Hungary.

Sophie fought well and gave it her all but had to settle for silver.

The club are now looking to continue their success with Lewis Fallon, who will represent WAKO at an event in Naples in Italy later this month.

Club coach Dean Sugden said: “The NMA kids and juniors are dominating the international circuit at the moment.

“We have such a good reputation and they are all still learning. They have such a lot to learn but are all training five or six days a week and are so dedicated.

“They train like challengers but are all now showing their class abroad. It is great experience for them, and while I am involved I will do everything I can to give them all the opportunities they deserve.”

Further success is also expected when Chad Sugden faces a domestic opponent on September 21 in Hull before he fights for the European Title at Kelham Hall on Saturday October 11 against French champion Kaya Hussain.
