Carl Greaves' fighter Sam Bowen ready for first defence of British super featherweight title

By Connor Thompson

Carl Greaves’ super featherweight fighter Sam Bowen will defend his title at the Morningside Arena, Leicester, on Saturday night, in front of the BT Sport cameras.

Bowen, 26, won the British super featherweight title in April 2018, and his trainer Greaves, of Newark, said he is ready to move up to the next step after Saturday night.

“We have gone from the small shows at the start to the big title fights together,” said Greaves. “He’s been backed financially by his sponsor Baz Jordan (of Jordan Road Surfacing) and he’s been a real success story.

“Sam’s always delivered for me and he will be too much for Jordan McCorry.”

Greaves said Bowen — who has 14 wins, ten of which by knockout — is one of a kind, and his fitness levels were freakish.

The undefeated Kyle Haywood, also trained by Greaves, will fight CJ Challenger for the vacant Midlands area super-welterweight title on the same card.
