His impressive 2k time of 08-50 also earned him top spot across the whole of Nottinghamshire.

Maisie Mullett, 10, also recorded a strong finish (09-41) to take runner-up across Nottinghamshire’s runners.

She was 26th of 120 racers overall.

Jamie MacIntyre, of Newark Athletic Club, said: “The race included some of the fastest juniors in the East Midlands and was made up of 120, nine to 11 year-olds (school years five and six).

“Both Newark runners said it was the most competitive race they had ever competed in.

“Both Maisie and Teddy are only in school year five, so they can compete in this again next year and hopefully do even better.”

On Saturday, the day before, three racers were at the Stars of the Future event at Leicester.

And Macintyre recorded second there too as he finished in 8-21.

Ruben Shivas, 10, was fifth overall in 08-56.

Mullett also raced and finished in 09-18.

The trio of runners received high praise from their club mates for their strong finishes.
