LEARN MOREThe Newark rugby community has paid tribute to former club president Bob Benbow, who died over the holiday period.
Bob first served Newark Rugby Club as a player and official before becoming president for two seasons in 1989-90 and 1990-91.
In a club statement, a spokesman said: "All members and supporters send their sympathy and thoughts to the family and friends of former president Bob Benbow.
"He joined the club when he came to work in Newark for estate agents William H Brown.
"He had previously played for the Stoneygate club in Leicester.
"Bob played a full part in club life as a player, official and supporter.
"He spoke at the club’s Centenary Dinner in 2019 about his playing days when he captained the 3rd XV from scrum-half.
"He remained a member and supporter after his playing days finished and was also a popular member of the club’s golf society.
"Our thoughts are with his wife Helen and family."
Funeral details will be posted by the club at a later date.
