Tries flow in festive fixture
Newark Rugby Club led their annual Boxing Day president’s match, with the club side winning 57-31 in a game containing 16 tries.
Among the spectators were former Newark favourites Tom Ryder, now a Saracens second row forward, and Huani Tiu, who has represented New Zealand Maoris and now plays for Italian side Calvisano.
The tryscorers for the club side included David Fagan, Will Naylor, Chris Tate, Matt Brewer, Johnnie Statham and James Dyer, while Charlie Claydon kicked a conversion.
Tom Coen, George Padley, Alex Statham, Harry Dunn and Luke Watham were among those who replied with tries for the president’s XV, with Dunn adding four conversions.
Mark Byrom made an impressive debut for the 1st XV, and played part of the game alongside his father Richard.
Newark Rugby Club 1st XV have a free weekend, and return to action at home to Wellingborough in Midlands Two East a week tomorrow.
