A COUPLE of budding footballers are one step closer to securing a professional contract after signing for Lincoln City following a series of trials.

Dan King, 15, and Zak Casburn, 14, both of Tuxford Academy, impressed with strong performances for Retford United and Newark Town’s youth teams.

King, of Norwell, said: “We will get a review at the end of the season, working our way towards under-16s level and hopefully a scholarship. We know the process can be pretty cut-throat so we’re just giving it our best shot.”

Casburn has led the attacking line for much of the season, while King has looked to be solid in the heart of the defence.

They have both taken part in a number of matches against players from other academies, keen to catch the eye of their coaches.

King, said achieving the opportunity to play at such a level had been a dream he had been pursuing for a long time.

“I’ve been pushing for this for a number of years, it kept me motivated in the matches and I’m pleased to have impressed the scouts.”
