Their only solid opponent was captain and opener Srikanth Gubili, who scored a magnificent 130 not out. He carried his bat throughout and was joined late on by Hari Pannala, who scored a rapid 74, including 22 runs off a single over.

Poplars ended on 258-9 with Dominik Modd (3-39) the most successful bowler.

Coddington & Winthorpe lost in-form batter Max Pickles in the first over. Ewan Butterfield and Josh Mee tried to counter-attack, but their 50-run partnership was broken when Mee was caught in bizarre fashion.

Two more quick wickets fell before Ewan and Jay Butterfield occupied the crease together, scoring 42 and 47 respectively. Jake Warrener added 21 which took the away side to full batting points before they were all out for 165 on what was a disappointing day.

The defeat ended a good month for Coddington & Winthorpe, who picked up 85 points out of a possible 100.

Meanwhile, the 2nds defeated Wymeswold 2nds by six wickets, with a special mention to 13-year-old Harry Power who took 5-24.

The 1sts take on Ravenshead in their penultimate game this Saturday.
