Newark and Sherwood United enjoying a packed pre-season of friendly football games





The new football season is almost upon us and teams in our area are gearing up in preparation.

Newark and Sherwood United will kick off their campaign on July 27 in the United Counties Football League Premier Division North when they play against newly-promoted side Shirebrook Town.

This will be the first season ground sharing with Harrowby at the in Grantham following their departure from Station Road at the end of last season when their ground share agreement with Collingham came to and end.

In the mean time six pre-season games have been lined up to keep fans entertained during the summer break.

They kicked off their first pre-season game at home with a 1 - 1 draw to Blackstones FC on Wednesday.

They will then head out on the road for games against Birstall United today (kick off 1pm), followed by Rainworth Miners Welfare on July 9 (7.45pm), and then Gedling Miners Welfare on July 13 (3pm).

Fans will then have another chance to see the team play at home on July 17 when they face Long Eaton United (7.45pm).

The final pre-season game will take place away at Moorside Rangers on July 20 (2pm).
