British Powerlifting championships held at Suthers School, Newark, Nottinghamshire





The British Powerlifting championships took place at the Suthers School and saw 140 athletes from all over the country compete for a chance to represent Team GB at European and World level.

James Brincat-Smith, his fiancé Jenni and daughter Ella from Newark competed and all three of them came away as British champions.

Ella Brincat-Smith is the current Sub Jnr world Champion in Equipped Bench Press.

The 18-year-old is now moving up to the Jnr category and had a great day at these Championships, securing her second British Title with a competition personal best of 105kg.

Her father James returned to the platform after a four year absence.

He earned his seventh British titled and was selected to represent Britain for the ninth time internationally for the British equipped Bench Press Team lifting 210kg at the championships.

In May, both Ella and James will head out to Texas for the World Bench Press Championships.

Jenni Sherwood, James’ fiancé made a return from injury under the direction of coach John Hamson.

She successfully won her fourth British title at the championships achieving a 200kg squat, 102.5kg bench press and a 193kg deadlift setting three British records in the process.

Jenni’s next stop is the European Championships in Luxembourg early May.
