Newark Alliance sees Willie Hall games played as cup finals approach fast in the Sunday league competition with teams from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire still in contention




Weather again caused issues for the Newark Alliance Sunday football leagues with several matches called off.

There was still plenty of action available for dedicated spectators with a number of cup and league games going ahead.

The Willie Hall trophy, arguably the most famous of the Sunday league competitions in Newark saw two 2-1 score lines take place in the quarter final.

The first saw Walesby scrape the win against home side RHP at the Newark YMCA.

The other saw The Duck scrape the bragging rights against the other home side, Farnsfield Villa thanks to two goals from Joe Bilton who backed up after scoring the winner for Collingham the day before in the Notts Senior League.

Walesby will now take on the winner of Holy Trinity versus Bottesford in the semi-final.

The Duck will compete against the winner of RHP Firsts versus Hawtonville in their semi-final.

The Sunday Senior Notts FA Challenge Cup saw Holy Trinity tie 2-2 with Sherwood Colliery Sunday.

Rounding out the day were two league games played at the Division Two level.

The Musketeers went down 5-1 to Newark Town Sunday in a game that saw a hat-trick scored by Stefan Farcasanu.

Sutton on Trent welcomed Bleasby to their home pitch and won 4-1 against the visitors.

The cup finals are fast approaching with the Keith Cartledge semi-final dates to be decided, although the teams are known.

In the semi-finals for the trophy, Newark Town Sunday Reserves will take on AFC Colsterworth, while The Three Gables will take on RHP Reserves.

The Pat Jepson will see Newark Town Sunday take on Bottesford in their semi final, while Skillington Beehive will go up against Laxton Athletic.
