Newark-based WINTEC Racing open FSRA WINTEC Pre-Injection Sidecar championship with Oulton Park win

WINTEC Racing started the 2021 FSRA WINTEC Pre-Injection Sidecar championship with a win at Oulton Park on Saturday.

The Newark sidecar racing team, led by hometown driver Simon Horton and passenger Jordan Forrest, from Misterton, were straight out the blocks setting pole position for the two races.

They began their first race from the sixth row of the mixed grid of outfits and, with three different sidecar championships on the grid, it proved to be fast and exciting racing.

Riding the 1200cc WINTEC Suzuki outfit, the pair led the opening race in their class for the first two laps, holding a comfortable lead over Heys/Wheeler, setting the fastest lap of the race on lap two in 2.01.036s — with a top speed of 80.06mph.

But a snapped throttle cable on lap three put an end to their race and they sat out the remainder of the seven laps watching instead of racing.

After hurried repairs Horton and Forrest had the outfit up and running well in time for race two of the day.

Once again starting from pole in their class they rode a perfect race, leading the pack from lights to flag to pick up maximum points.

Horton said: “We had an enjoyable weekend catching up with our competitors and to secure our first win of the new season was the icing on the cake. Thanks to our sponsors for their help and to Jordan, he is a great passenger.”

Forrest said: “We were fastest in qualifying and were leading the first race when the throttle cable snapped, but we made up for that in race two when we took the win.

“Oulton Park is such a hard track but we loved every minute of it.”

The next round takes place on May 3 at Leicestershire’s Mallory Park where the team hopes to add to its tally.
