Newark musician aims for coveted Christmas number one spot
A performer is aiming for stardom this Christmas following the release of his new festive single.
Popular rocker Steve Steinman, of Newark, is hoping to achieve the coveted Christmas number one spot with his latest song, Journey Home.
Steve released his debut album, Take A Leap Of Faith, earlier this year which went straight to number one on the iTunes and Amazon rock charts.
"It's something I've never done, I've never had the time," Steve said about his Christmas single.
"This has all come out of lockdown. It would've never come about otherwise."
Steve said that Journey Home was supposed to feature on Take A Leap Of Faith, but he couldn't ignore its festive feel.
"Upon listening to Journey Home, it just had this Christmas feel without it being a Christmas song," he said.
"It's about everybody's journey. It was never meant to be a Christmas song, but I think it just is."
To achieve his goal, Steve will need to beat big industry names like Ed Sheeran, Elton John, ABBA and Adele.
"I'm well up against it but if the people got behind me, I believe it's the best song in the charts this Christmas.
"It would be a Christmas miracle if we made it to number one, I'd be over the moon."
